FANGORIA Presents: “CORPSING” Competition—Meet the artists!

CORPSINGFANGOPRESENTSFEAT

On Monday we announced that FANGORIA Presents had acquired writer/director Jeff Monahan’s macabre romance CORPSING for U.S. distribution, with Video on Demand play slated to begin everywhere on August 6 (see details here). Today we introduce you to three masterful artists who FANGORIA Presents has engaged to design CORPSING’s promotional artwork. But, of course, we can’t use all three (as much as we’d like to!), so we will be counting on you to choose your favorite design in an online poll when our CORPSING poster contest goes live tomorrow. The winning artist will create the final CORPSING artwork. So, without further adieu, let’s meet our highly-talented contestants!

Artist #1: Vincent Castiglia

CorpsingVincent

Vincent Castiglia’s paintings are monochromatic tableaux examining life, death and the human condition. Castiglia achieved fame as the first American artist to receive a solo exhibition invitation from legendary ALIEN/SPECIES creature creator H.R. Giger to exhibit in the H.R. Giger Museum Gallery in Switzerland. Castiglia’s inaugural body of work, REMEDY FOR THE LIVING, ran for six months at the Giger museum. 2010 marked the film and music debut for Castiglia’s art when he created the poster for MTV New Media’s slasher flick SAVAGECOUNTY. Earlier in the year, Castiglia painted album art for Triptykon’s 2010 debut release, EPARISTERA DAIMONES.

Castiglia’s work hangs in many distinguished international collections, and his paintings have been exhibited at museums and galleries all over the world. His work has been spotlighted on FOX News, CNBC, BBC, New York 1 News, Spike TV, The Discovery Channel and The Science Channel. He was also recently awarded Tattoo Artist of the Year in ThisisHorror.uk’s This Is Horror Awards 2012. Oh, we almost forgot: Castiglia’s entire collection of paintings is created exclusively in human blood. Go to Castiglia’s official website here.

Artist #2: Marc Schoenbach (in his own words)

CorpsingmarcI didn’t go to school for design. I had other plans. I was going to work with the FBI and help catch serial killers! I even went as far as getting my Masters in Forensic Psychology. I found that writing about killers was a great source of inspiration. I liked the way true crime made me feel. The feeling of being utterly fascinated by how crazy people can be, the things humans can do to one another. It was like watching horror movies, but only real. But I just couldn’t imagine working with actual psychopaths. I’d rather see it on the screen! After all, I grew up with horror movies. I was a part of that magical time known as the VHS era. I’d go to the local video store about three times a week. I didn’t know anything about the movies other than the fact that they had really awesome artwork on the covers.

I always liked to create, mostly through writing screenplays. Back in 2004, I had obtained a copy of Photoshop. I realized that I could create something aesthetically pleasing, as well as tell a story. It wasn’t long until the two mediums clicked. Movie poster design is something that I love doing because I can hone in on two of my biggest passions: writing and designing. And it’s not like I don’t have a trick up my sleeve. The plan: get the attention of film executives by creating kick-ass posters. Then, ask them to read my screenplay! (See Schoenbach’s Facebook page here).
