FANGORIA Podcast Network: “THE RANTS MACABRE” Tunes In To Radio Horror!Books/Art/Culture,Features/Interviews,Home,News Fangoria Staff
Before the days of HANNIBAL and THE WALKING DEAD, horror hounds used to find their frights on the airwaves via radio plays, serialized thrillers and more. While horror on the radio still exists to this day- TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE, FANGO’s own THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW, etc.-, it certainly isn’t how it used to be since the days where Orson Welles’ WAR OF THE WORLDS broadcast unleashed mass hysteria upon the U.S. Yet in horror fiction, the dream of radio horror still exists, and in the latest episode of THE RANTS MACABRE, things get meta as our horror hosts tune into some broadcasted brutality!
That’s right: the latest eerie installment of THE RANTS MACABRE finds Darren & Mindy touch base on radio horror, dialing into three prime examples of the genre done right. First up, the demonic duo check out the undeniable classic THE FOG from John Carpenter. Next, Darren & Mindy go across the ocean for Yoshihiro Nakamura’s J-Horror offering THE BOOTH. Lastly, the petrifying pair get loud and clear with PONTYPOOL, one of the most contemporary examples of the sordid subgenre.
