If you’ve seen Jim Mickle’s stellar refashioning, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, you know it’s a beautiful, melancholy American Gothic horror story that builds to something of an operatic finale. Now available on VOD and coming to Blu-ray and DVD this month, FANGORIA presents an exclusive look at an accompanying special feature, in which actors Bill Sage and Julia Garner talk the bloody set-piece and dive into both the reality of shooting it and their characters’ mindsets.

Of course, spoilers lie ahead…

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, a film about an upstate American family who once a year engages in cannibal tradition, concludes in powerful fashion. It finds the sisters, who’ve struggled with both the pressure and growing discomfort of carrying on the tradition both reclaim and reject it from their father, who’s adamant in its survival in the face of his wife’s death. They do so by consuming not the prepared victim, but their father, and then proceed to start fresh. It’s unforgettable, and remains so on each subsequent view.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE comes to Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, January 7. For more, see our full review of the film here.
