IFC Films gave Fango the scoop that it will release DARKNET (originally known as CAM2CAM) August 22 in select theaters and on cable and digital VOD under the IFC Midnight banner. Longtime genre director/producer Joel Soisson (FEAST, PIRANHA 3DD, the PULSE sequels) helmed the film, which also stars Ben Wiggins, Sarah Bonrepaux, Jade Tailor and Russell Geoffrey Banks. The synopsis: “Lucy, a young American tourist in Thailand, dies after being lured into a kinky on-line game. Her sister, Allie, comes to Bangkok seeking answers only to become enmeshed in a conspiracy of bored young ex-pats, led by the seductive and quirky Marit. They are all just looking for their next big thrill. Allie’s growing affection for Marit leads her to the dark side of a city where no one is who they seem, both on-line and in person.” The movie is based on a 2008 short also called CAM2CAM, co-written and directed by Davy Sihali; Sursok’s other horror credits include ALBINO FARM and HUSK.
