EXCL: Nasty Looks at Robert Hall’s “FEAR CLINIC”News Samuel Zimmerman
Based on the fan favorite web series of the same name, director and FX artist Robert Hall has reteamed with genre icon Robert Englund for FEAR CLINIC. Looking to exploit the phobias of its characters and, in turn, the audience, FEAR CLINIC boasts nightmarish, practical FX-driven visions and FANGORIA has two new looks, below.
Starring Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, Corey Taylor, Angelina Armani and Thomas Dekker, FEAR CLINIC focuses on five survivors of a horrifying tragedy whose trauma-induced phobias reemerge a year later. They return to the “Fear Clinic” hoping to find the answers they need to get cured. There, Dr. Andover (Robert Englund) uses his Fear Chamber to animate their fears in the form of terrifying hallucinations, but begins to suspect that something more sinister may be at work.
Hall, the director of LIGHTNING BUG and the LAID TO REST films, as well as episodes of MTV’s TEEN WOLF teases FEAR CLINIC as a grand return for FX great Steve Johnson (NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, THE ABYSS, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA). Calling it an “epic comeback,” Hall notes “This is the first project Steve Johnson has done makeup effects on in seven years, acting as FX designer for Almost Human Inc, working alongside Almost Human Digital and the great Robert Kurtzman’s company contributing additional Makeup Effects.”
While a release date is finalized for FEAR CLINIC, Hall clued Fango in to what’s next, including an “80s style” music video for the film, for Corey Taylor and Stone Sour’s rendition of Metal Church’s ‘The Dark.’ Beyond FEAR CLINIC, Hall says, “After just finishing a block of episodes for MTV’s hit show TEEN WOLF, I plan on getting CHOPPING MALL (written by TEEN WOLF staff writer Alyssa Clark and Jesec Griffin) fast tracked next as my love letter to Roger Corman, as well as THE CHROMESKULL TAPES (written by Amanda Rebholz and Robert Hall, and starring Thomas Dekker) which will be shot before the end of the year.”
