Open Road Films, who released last year’s fantastic THE GREY and the not-so-fantastic SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS has picked up the latest from Eli Roth, his first directorial effort in six years.
THR is reporting Open Road bought the film, which harks back to the days of Italian cannibal cinema, out of the Toronto International Film Festival where it world premiered to a great deal of positive feedback (including ours here). THE GREEN INFERNO finds a group of young would-be activists fly to the Amazon with the intention of its inhabitants, flora and human alike. When their plane crashes, the group is held captive by a native tribe. Flesh-eating ensues.
A wide release is expected, but when exactly remains unknown. Roth and his AFTERSHOCK co-writer Nicolas López are already planning to return to Peru next year for a sequel entitled BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO. Lopez will helm that film.
