DVDetails/art: Richard Griffin’s “DR. FRANKENSTEIN” & “EXHUMED,” plus “MOLD!”Movies/TV,News Michael Gingold
A trio of East Coast independent horror features are headed for DVD release this spring/summer, and we’ve got the full details and cover art.
Prolific Rhode Island filmmaker Richard Griffin and his Scorpio Film Releasing are self-distributing their 13th feature, DR. FRANKENSTEIN’S WAX MUSEUM OF THE HUNGRY DEAD (pictured above, and last reported on here), on disc and VOD, with pre-orders for the $20 DVD and $25 Blu-ray (shipping April 21) currently being taken at the company’s website. “With the landscape of media distribution changing so rapidly,” Griffin says, “Scorpio Film Releasing has decided to forego the typical channels of motion picture distribution and dive into some fresh, uncharted waters by self-distributing DR. FRANKENSTEIN. We have wonderful relationships with the several companies that have released our films for the past decade, but much like the title character himself, we felt the need to do some experimentation. So, starting with this title, we will be producing two movies a year to release solely on our SFR label. We will also be producing one other film that will be released in the classic fashion, like our upcoming production NORMAL, which is very much a non-horror project.”
DR. FRANKENSTEIN’S WAX MUSEUM OF THE HUNGRY DEAD, scripted by Griffin and Seth Chitwood, is available on the new Vimeo VOD platform here; bonus features on the discs include:
• Audio commentary by the cast and crew
• Production history
Later this year—June 18, to be exact—Wild Eye Releasing issues Griffin’s black-and-white Gothic family psychochiller EXHUMED on DVD. Wild Eye gave us the scoop that the movie (last covered here), which stars Fango fave Debbie Rochon, Sarah Nicklin, Michael Reed and Michael Thurber, will come with the following extras:
• Audio commentary by Griffin, producers Ted Marr and Kristin Kayala and actor Thurber
• Audio commentary by Griffin and writer Guy Benoit
• Extensive one-hour behind-the-scenes documentary
Wild Eye is also giving Neil Meschino’s slimy sci-fi shocker MOLD! its first commercial DVD release May 21. This one will include these supplements:
• “Behind the Scenes of MOLD!” featurette
• Audio commentary by Meschino and director of photography Robert Fattorini
