Director Joe Begos on an “ALMOST HUMAN” Sequel and What’s Next

On the eve of its theatrical and VOD release from IFC Midnight, festival favorite ALMOST HUMAN is riding high on buzz and a nostalgia-friendly marketing campaign. Should that (deserved) good word translate to a success, there just may be another ALMOST HUMAN in the wings. This writer caught up with director Joe Begos during his press rounds for the alien-abduction slasher flick, and the filmmaker talked a potential second outing. However, you should be warned that the comment does cover some spoiler territory. Be cautious before reading on…

“The idea for the sequel is like a mix between ALIENS and HALLOWEEN II, and we’d have Seth survive, but he would be infected with the [alien] worm. So they take him to the hospital where he’d awake and start infecting all the people at the hospital. Suddenly, the hospital would be like this hive of aliens ready to explode and we’d go from there.”

On a follow-up to ALMOST HUMAN, Begos also weighed the option of another sci-fi tinged horror film,  also evocative of nostalgic genre classics. “I want to do a telekinetic revenge thriller, like a mix between SCANNERS and DEATH WISH. It will be a crazy, ’80s exploding-head sci-fi horror revenge movie,” he says.
