Dewil to direct psychic-powered shelter thriller, “WET HOUSE”Movies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
Director Mukunda Michael Dewil (VEHICLE 19) will helm an upcoming psychological thriller that utilizes the “wet house” concept, in which chronic alcoholics are sheltered but not required to submit to counseling or treatment within, as its setting.
Instead, the residents are served alcohol under a regimented program and with rules. The idea is such that it keeps the homeless or near-homeless from living on the streets and indulging in even more harmful substances. “I like the idea that everything is layered with this atmosphere of unnamed trepidation — nothing can be trusted at face value and that kind of foreboding really gives me a lot to work with when creating the world of this story,” DeWil tells Deadline.
It certainly seems a place fraught with tension, tragedy and a wavering sense of reality. It could make for harrowing stuff in WET HOUSE, which Zero Gravity Entertainment has set Dewil (pictured above, left) to direct. The film will tell of a psychologist and a mysterious psychic patient within the titular construct.
Written by Jack Reher, actor/filmmaker Thomas Jane was previously expected to direct.
