DeMonaco returns to the world of “THE PURGE” for sequelMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
THE PURGE, the very successful, high concept horror thriller was a largely contained movie. Set inside the confusing house of a security system salesman, the film distilled the kind of gonzo premise of a 12-hour all-things-go window into a home invasion/siege movie with ill-explored class issues and spooky masks. Now, a sequel is underway with writer/director James DeMonaco returning. Will he take us out into the world of the New Founders of America?
I sure hope so. The most memorable aspect of THE PURGE was that stellar opening sequence of a darkly humorous, voyeuristic look at an America under “The Purge.” Of course, there’s no indication of story direction yet, so they also still have time to just make the in-development SOCIETY 2 and release it under THE PURGE title, blowing everyone’s mind with a purge-y orgy of slimy FX, and more of Lena Headey bashing faces into tables.
Your move, Jason Blum!
