Danielle Harris talks “BLACK WATERS OF ECHO’S POND”Movies/TV,News Erica Brown
Modern-day scream queen, director, model and television host Danielle Harris gave Fango her perspective on her role as Kathy in THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO’S POND, the nightmarish splatter flick that debuts on DVD and Blu-ray today from Anchor Bay Entertainment.
FANGORIA: What can you tell us about Kathy in BLACK WATERS OF ECHO’S POND?
DANIELLE HARRIS: Kathy is probably the most levelheaded of the group, but she carries around plenty of anger. This has a lot to do with the passing of her brother, as well as with her relationship frustrations. She definitely isn’t afraid to speak her mind, that’s for sure!
FANG: There are a lot of creepy scenes in this movie, and you pull off screaming and being terrified very convincingly. What do you channel for motivation when it comes to playing moments of absolute terror?
HARRIS: I guess you could say it’s kind of second nature to me by now, considering I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years! I just try and stay in the moment, and if a scene is going as planned, I fully commit to it and the emotion comes naturally.
FANG: Can you tell us a little bit about the ghoul that haunts BLACK WATERS?
HARRIS: That may be a better question for the writer! Every good horror movie needs a monster, and this one packs in all the demons that come out of the characters. So maybe the actual ghoul is just the devil inside each of us that possesses us to do awful things.
FANG: What is the premise behind the game you all play in the movie that unlocks those demons?
HARRIS: I think that sometimes the truth hurts, but carrying around secrets and resentments will eventually catch up to you. I don’t think you ever win the game—the game will always beat you!
FANG: Which scenes did you have the most fun filming? Were there any that were especially grueling?
HARRIS: Obviously, the most fun was making out with Mircea Monroe! Most of the other scenes were grueling, because we had a very large cast to cover for each scene, and a limited time to do it in.
FANG: So what was it about THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO’S POND that made you say, “Yes, I need to do this movie”?
HARRIS: I really wanted to work with my friends! I was already friends with the twins [Elise and Electra Avellan], James Duval, Nick Mennell and Mircea, so I thought it would be fun. I had also never died by chainsaw before!
FANG: What else can fans expect to see you in this year?
HARRIS: I have a few films that recently came out on DVD, including AMONG FRIENDS, my directorial debut, and HATCHET III. In October I have SHIVER coming to DVD and VOD, as well as HALLOWEEN WARS on the Food Network, SKIN on Syfy and another series I’m co-hosting for the E! Network. I also have a great spread in Inked magazine hitting newsstands this month!
