“CONJURING” Doll Annabelle to get Spin-off

CONJURINGSEQUELFEAT

The genre’s smash hit of the summer was THE CONJURING, James Wan’s immensely terrifying haunting film that grossed over $300 million worldwide. Wan’s first horror hit of 2013, ahead of his supposed scare film swan song INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, has been nothing less than a phenomenon amongst horror hounds both hardcore and casual, and did so even with an unjustly given “R”-rating. Shortly after the films huge opening weekend, a sequel was greenlit and cast members Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga resigned as Ed and Lorraine Warren, but while Warner Brothers attempts to woo back James Wan for a second installment, could there be more CONJURING in the meantime?

Reports surfaced this weekend from SchmoesKnow.com that Warner Brothers is developing a spin-off to THE CONJURING, a possible prequel focusing on the film’s scene-stealing demonic doll, ANNABELLE. Details are scant at the moment, but what is known is that CONJURING writers The Hayes Brothers will not be scribing the film (as they are currently refining CONJURING 2 for Warner Brothers and New Line) and CONJURING Director of Photography John Leonetti will be stepping behind the camera to direct the spinoff. The reports also cite a Spring 2014 date for principal photography, and if that’s true, expect details on casting and the story to come decently quickly.

Additionally, Bloody Disgusting is now reporting ANNABELLE is but one of three planned CONJURING spin-offs, all envisioned as “micro-budget.” For the full account of Annabelle, visit the Warrens’ official home at the The New England Society for Psychic Research.
