[Comic Con ’14] “TUSK” Trailer; ‘True North’ Trilogy

With the debut of the trailer for Season Five of THE WALKING DEAD and the announcement of ten new Scream Factory titles, thus came two new staples of horror within San Diego Comic Con. However, this year also brought an old Comic Con staple into the horror fold, with Kevin Smith debuting the trailer for his upcoming body horror film, TUSK, with an accompanying panel featuring stars Genesis Rodriguez, Haley Joel Osment and Michael Parks.

After regaling the audience with stories behind his recent visit to the set of STAR WARS, EPISODE VII, Smith first surprised audiences with his announcement of his increasingly horror-centric film slate, stating TUSK would be the first of a “True North” trilogy of fright flicks set within Canada. All produced within his SModcast Pictures slate (which also includes his Krampus anthology), Smith will follow TUSK with YOGA-HOSERS, which appears to be a PG-13 witchcraft horror film involving two Canadian teenage girls who are featured in TUSK, as well as the tentatively-titled MOOSE JAWS, which follows a killer, man-eating Moose terrorizing a unlucky Canadian town.

Afterwards, Smith introduced the first trailer for his body horror TUSK, which A24 Films set for release on September 19th, 2014; no word as of yet if the film will be given a stronger theatrical bow (like A24’s SPRING BREAKERS or UNDER THE SKIN) or if it will have a more quiet, VOD-centric release. The panel afterwards did not reveal too much more, aside from how willing the cast was to join the film and how low-budget filmmaking had invigorated Smith, who previously had his mind set on early retirement. You can check out the trailer for TUSK below, and let us know if you’re excited for more Canucksploitation from Kevin Smith.
