Cattet & Forzani talk “THE STRANGE COLOUR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS”Movies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
Already the most fantastically titled neo-giallo, the upcoming THE STRANGE COLOUR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS is also the much anticipated new film from the duo behind the artful, sensual, experimental love letter AMER. Aside from a vague synopsis and elegant, if brutal, teaser however, not a great ton is known of what to expect from their latest. Hungry for anything else, this roughly translated interview (what up, Google) with filmmakers Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani peers teasingly into what strange colours YOUR BODY’S TEARS holds.
Calling it aesthetically different and bleaker than AMER, the pair tell Shokkend Nieuws, “The story takes place in Brussels. That’s less bright and flashy than the Côte d’Azur … It is a bit of a northern giallo!”
This story of a husband investigating into the strange circumstances of wife’s disappearance and the a world of nightmare and violence that follows sounds no less artistically inclined however. Exploring and inspired by the decors of Brussels, the two reveal, “What particularly interested us were the Art Nouveau interiors. You will actually see little Brussels cityscapes, very many interiors. The Art Nouveau architecture gives the city something magical, something fantastic. Let’s say in our ordinary life, when we walk through the city, the city changed the moment we pass an Art Nouveau facade. That takes us out of the everyday. That brings us to another time. This has inspired us. Most sets that you will see in the film are indeed walking distance from our house. “
Per Cattet & Forzani, THE STRANGE COLOUR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS is expected to start a festival run later this year. For more, see its teaser below.
