The creators of the horror-filmmaking documentary UNDER THE
SCARES are hard at work on the second installment of what has become a
three-part series, and gave Fango the scoop on some of the folks who’ll appear
in the next movie, INDEPENDENT SCARES.
With Ben Wheatley—one of the most electric and prolific new filmmakers working—and stars/writers Alice Lowe and Steve Oram crafting a chronicle of new lovers on holiday, the last thing to expect is anything resembling a traditional relationship drama. And that’s the last thing you get. First lesson when casting acting newcomers in your new genre
flick: surround them with acting pros like Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti and
fright faves such as Clancy Brown (THE BRIDE, HIGHLANDER, upcoming
HELLBENDERS), Doug Jones (HELLBOY, PAN’S LABYRINTH) and the legendary Tall Man
himself, Angus Scrimm. That’s what writer/director Don Coscarelli did with his
latest movie JOHN DIES AT THE END (now on VOD;
beginning its multi-city theatrical rollout on January 25 from Magnet Releasing;
see list here),
which has been killing audiences since its debut at Sundance last year.

Right on on the Canadian
side of the border lies Niagara Falls’ Clifton Hill, a mini Las Vegas filled with garish
tourist trap attractions and most importantly, a glut of wax museums and a
spate of incredible haunted attractions. This year, just outside of the location of CASTLE DRACULA,
THE HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, THE HAUNTED HOUSE, NIGHTMARES and SCREAMERS,
FANGORIA will be setting up shop, bringing an extra dose of horror.

leaves Briarcliff unscathed. No one
really leaves. Those who did find a way out are drawn back, as if in a vicious
circle, even though time progresses.

Debuting this week on DVD and Blu-ray is the latest
catch-all genre parody, 30 NIGHTS OF PARANORMAL ACTIVITY…aw, hell, it’s too
long to run in this intro. Fango spoke to one of the actresses spoofing a
legendary recent screen heroine with a penchant for leather and piercings.
