Q&A: Rob Zombie on the Strange, Satanic “THE LORDS OF SALEM”

Surreal and singular, THE LORDS OF SALEM is one of the must-see horror movies of the year. Regardless of your own reaction in the end, it’s simply unlike much of anything that’s out. As we discuss with its director, the always polarizing Rob Zombie, that alone should be an exciting prospect. A descent into Satanic madness that is often hypnotic, composed and grand, the film was completed on Zombie’s quickest shoot and lowest budget. Here, the director speaks with Fango candidly about the lack of adventurous movie going, finishing THE LORDS OF SALEM and of course, it’s incredible wallpaper.

On multiple levels, this first poster for the upcoming witchy season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY is striking and exciting. The first, being aesthetically. The design is awesome and kinky and directly tied to the Voodoo and New Orleans location of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, as a major component of the religion is Li Grand Zombi, a snake deity. Zombie is also said to be the name of Marie Laveau’s pet snake. Angela Bassett portrays the New Orleans Voodoo practitioner in the series. Secondly, that prominent cast list features only one male. SAVINI AND ME: Part Eight, Shooting Arrows with Osiris

When writing a biography of someone, I find it important to get to know them as a person, not just the star they are. Hanging out with the person I’m working with is just as vital as the stories they tell me.  The reason being that celebrities tend to give canned responses to questions, as they have been asked the same ones over and over again their entire career. To really get to know someone, you have to watch them in their normal life, see how they act and be a part of what they do day-to-day.  With Tom, I had the chance to have many meals with him, see him in his neighborhood and how he is at conventions, but I needed more. I needed to see what Tom does in his spare time. Knowing Tom loves target practice, I suggested we go to the firing range to shoot arrows, and he agreed.

Q&A: Grade School Metal Band and “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT” darlings, MURP

Aaralyn and Izzy O’Neil are collectively known as MURP, a brother-sister Metal tinted band from Boston, Mass who started their wild act in 2010 after vocalist Aaralyn—who was three at the time—discovered she could scream like the Devil. Spurred on by their parents, they competed on TV reality show AMERICA’S GOT TALENT earlier this year performing their mind-bending screamo gem “Zombie Skin,” confusing Howard Stern, impressing Howie Mandel and blowing away a shocked audience.  Though the kids made it to the finals, they were eventually eliminated, but this did little to defeat them. They went back to Boston and made a four-track EP called BROKEN CRAYONS, which is now available.

Maybe you’re planning a vacation this year. Maybe you’re going to London.
