    Contest: Celebrate the work of Françoise Blanchard and win a copy of “THE LIVING DEAD GIRL”

    May 29th saw us lose a luminary of European horror with the passing of lovely French actress Françoise Blanchard. The beautiful performer worked with both the legendary Jess Franco (whose own legacy will feature heavily into our upcoming issue #325) in the bizarre REVENGE IN THE HOUSE OF USHER and of course French auteur Jean Rollin in several films, most notably starring as the doomed, tragic blood drinking ghoul in Rollin’s 1982 film THE LIVING DEAD GIRL. Among her other credits, she also provided the French dub voice for Shelly Duvall’s Olive Oyl in Altman’s POPEYE!

    Shout Factory’s “DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY” and “RACE WITH THE DEVIL” double disc! (Movie Review)

    Many might consider EASY RIDER or THE TRIP to be the infernal inception of the Peter Fonda phenomenon. As an impressionable 9 year old, however, who first encountered Fonda while he was exploding from a 12″ B&W Magnavox screen during the World Television Premiere of DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY and shortly followed up by the incendiary RACE WITH THE DEVIL, the concept of this perfect double bill was already indelibly seared into my young, malleable brain.

    Newborn Dead: Robert Haulbrook, acting and “DEVILING”

    The best actors are those who are willing to let themselves be consumed, physically becoming the role.  When it comes to performance, short films require just as much preparation as others, as it’s essential that the audience believe in the world of the film. The credibility of the character is a fundamental portion of that believable world. While the direction, camera work, lighting, sound and production value are all of major importance, let’s face it: it is the acting that needs to come across as real.

    “THE TWILIGHT ZONE: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON” (DVD Review)

    Image Entertainment has done a solid job keeping THE TWILIGHT ZONE alive in the digital format for a decade, including the recent immaculate Blu-ray releases that re-presented all five glorious seasons with every kind of extra, both old and new. Because of this, there‘s little reason to write anything about yet another re-release. And yet, we’re gonna do just that.
