There’s a saying I think many horror fans would agree on: “The freaks come out at night.” In the rising warmth of our summer evenings here at the FANGORIA vault, I cannot blame them. After all, with the midnight movies, sketchy 24-hour diners and night adventures onto supposed haunted territory, what’s fun to do in the daylight anyways? Aside from that, there’s a certain beauty in the darkness that is overlooked by such generalities, and no fright film does a better job at capturing that beauty as much as Werner Herzog’s nightmarish NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE, a/k/a NOSFERATU: PHANTOM DER NACHT.
