Filmmaker Patrick Rea talks Horror, the Midwest and his new film “NAILBITER”

In Kansas, there are few things scarier than a tornado or a basement.

Midwestern filmmaker Patrick Rea’s new horror film has plenty of both, and a little something extra too. It’s that last bit that a mother and her daughters find themselves facing during a killer storm in NAILBITER.  Rea’s new feature is just the most recent work; he’s been making horror shorts for more than 10 years, and he’s just getting started.

Trailer: The dreadful stares of “MANIAC”

A lot of Franck Khalfoun’s nasty, unsettling remake of William Lustig’s nasty, New York horror MANIAC is looking. Of course, much of the film you’re staring through the eyes of the maniac himself, but then there’s the stares back at him, something highlighted in the movie’s official U.S. trailer. The eyes looking back at Frank (Elijah Wood) are filled with judgment, fear, affection, enticement and it all adds greatly to a truly dreadful atmosphere.

Full Trailer: Edgar Wright brings us “THE WORLD’S END”

Can you, in fact, go home again? Not when alien robots have taken over. A bit snappier, some bigger action and certainly more trailer guy voiceover-ier, the U.S. preview for the upcoming Wright/Pegg/Frost joint reveals a bit more of everyone and what they’re up against.

The third Cornetto is fast approaching. The cap to director Edgar Wright’s previous collaborations with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost finds the former playing ne’er do well Gary King, a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Here, we’ve got high energy, humanoids with elongated arms, a bigger look at Rosamund Pike’s character and what looks like SIGHTSEERS’ brilliant Steve Oram.

The highly, highly anticipated (by me, and hopefully all of you) THE WORLD’S END hits August 23. You can find the trailer at Yahoo!
