  • FANGO Flashback: “TICKS”

    Out of all the longtime genre filmmakers who have soldiered on year after year in the face of jaded audiences, changing marketplaces and plummeting budgets, there’s few that are as underappreciated as Brian Yuzna. An impressive director in his own right, Yuzna’s productions are completely representative of his reckless imagination, maniacal tonal shifts and unadulterated love for practical effects, and not nearly enough of his films are given the retrospective love that they deserve. And while sometimes the quality of his productions may be questionable, there’s no denying that his films are technically competent and a complete blast from start to finish, which is more than some can say about the half-baked efforts of more lauded horror masters.

  • “CONTAMINATION” (Blu-ray Review)

    As any hardcore horror fan can tell you, old school Italian horror has a very fascinating dynamic. On one hand, it’s provided some of the most elegant, transgressive and flat-out gorgeous cinema in the history of the genre. On the other hand, it has also provided some of the most hilariously inane and obvious rip-offs of all time, often times approached with a go-for-broke attitude. One-time video nasty CONTAMINATION definitely finds itself in the latter category, but once seeing the film, there’s little question as to why the fright flick managed to get the Arrow Blu-ray treatment: it’s next level bonkers, and it offer neither explanation or apologies for its insanity.

    Following the recent Kickstarter for finishing funds, Troma fans saw light on the horizon for the much-anticipated RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH VOLUME 2, the second chapter in the 40+ year old indie studios gory return to form. And while fans might have to wait a little bit longer to see the shiny, polished version that will eventually make its way to theaters, FANGORIA has exclusively learned that a work-in-progress cut of RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH VOLUME 2 will be screening on Friday, July 24th as a part of Troma’s esteemed Brooklyn-based film festival, Tromadance!
