Brad Anderson’s “STONEHEARST ASYLUM” (Formerly ELIZA GRAVES) Out this October

Brad Anderson, of the great SESSION 9 and more is returning to an institution setting in the Edgar Allan Poe adaptation, STONEHEARST ASYLUM. Formerly titled ELIZA GRAVES and based on Poe’s “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether,” STONEHEARST has been set for official release this fall.

Starring Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Brendan Gleeson, Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess and David Thewlis, STONEHEARST ASYLUM opens this October 24th from Millennium Entertainment. The film takes place in “England, 1899. When young doctor Edward Newgate (Sturgess) arrives at Stonehearst Asylum in search of an apprenticeship, he is warmly welcomed by superintendent Dr. Lamb (Kingsley) and a mesmerizing woman named Eliza Graves (Beckinsale). Edward is intrigued by Lamb’s modern methods of treating the insane…until a series of unusual events leads him to make a horrifying discovery, exposing Lamb’s utopia and pushing Edward to the limits of his conscience.”

Poe’s story has been previously adapted  a number of times, maybe most successfully in THE MANSION OF MADNESS (1973), from ALUCARDA director Juan López Moctezuma. Expect more on STONEHEARST, soon.
