Blumhouse-produced “THE LAZARUS EFFECT” Trailer Results In More Angry UndeadMovies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
The dead always seem to be angry, don’t they? Has the age of GHOST and CASPER finally seen its last horizon?
The dead certainly seem to be particularly angry in this trailer* for THE LAZARUS EFFECT, the latest addition to the Blumhouse canon with another surprisingly great cast and intriguing premise. From director David Gelb, taking a dark turn from his last feature JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI, THE LAZARUS EFFECT follows a team of medical students who are experimenting on resuscitating dead animals. Obviously, things go bad, more bad things happen and eventually, they have to resuscitate one of their own. You can probably guess how that will go for them.
Seriously speaking, there’s a lot of promise here in THE LAZARUS EFFECT, featuring some inspired effects, some nice touches of tension and a superb roster that includes the likes of Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Donald Glover and Evan Peters. But whereas some later moments would lead you to believe the film may descend into EVENT HORIZON territory, the firm PG-13 adorning the trailer and the ever-predictable plot points may beg to differ. In any case, THE LAZARUS EFFECT has my attention; does it have yours? We’ll find out when the film hits theaters from Relativity Media on February 27th.
