Blu-ray/DVDetails/art: More John Carpenter, “AS NIGHT FALLS” exclusive, “FRIGHT NIGHT 2” and “WITCHBOARD 2”
A major update to our on-line DVD/Blu-ray release schedule is coming later today, but for now we’ve got info and art on a bunch of specific titles to share, including a pair of John Carpenter favorites and content details on sequels old and new.
Adding to its long line of Carpenter titles under the Scream Factory banner, Shout! Factory will issue his made-for-cable anthology BODY BAGS (pictured above) on Blu-ray/DVD combo and urban-action classic ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 on Blu-ray in November. BODY BAGS, with episodes helmed by Carpenter and Tobe Hooper, casts the HALLOWEEN creator as a twisted coroner who introduces the tales of terror: “The Gas Station,” starring Robert Carradine; “Hair,” with Stacy Keach; and “Eye,” toplining Mark Hamill. Deborah Harry, Sheena Easton, Twiggy, David Naughton, John Agar and David Warner co-star, with cameos by Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, Sam Raimi, Roger Corman and Greg Nicotero. Presented in uncut anamorphic widescreen, BODY BAGS will be packed with:
• Audio commentary by Carpenter and Carradine on “The Gas Station”
• Audio commentary by Carpenter and Keach on “Hair”
• Audio commentary by producer Sandy King on “Eye”
• Interviews with Carpenter, King, Keach and Carradine
Details on ASSAULT, in which a street gang lays siege to a Los Angeles police station, are to be announced; retail prices are $29.93 each. Those who order BODY BAGS and ASSAULT from the Shout! Factory website will receive exclusive 18×24-inch posters featuring the respective, newly commissioned cover artwork while supplies last.
Fango got the exclusive art and specs for AS NIGHT FALLS, a ghostly shocker from writer/director Joe Davison coming on DVD from Breaking Glass Pictures’ Vicious Circle Films label November 12. Deneen Melody and Lily Cardone star as sisters battling murderous spirits known as Mother (Debbie Rochon) and Father (Michael Ellison) that start killing off their friends; helping in the fight are the girls’ older brother (Davison) and the ghost of Amelia (Grace Chapman), Mother and Father’s daughter and first victim. The disc will present the movie in 16×9 widescreen, and also include behind-the-scenes footage. Breaking Glass has also announced an October 8 street date for 4 DEAD GIRLS: THE SOUL TAKER, from Mike Campbell and Todd Johnson, in which a new house becomes a death trap for a quartet of college girls thanks to the second-half-of-the-title character. Also in 16×9 widescreen, this one will come with:
• Interviews with the cast
• Deleted scenes
• FX featurette
Retail price for each of these two is $24.99.
Art just came through to go with the word that Olive Films will give Kevin Tenney’s WITCHBOARD 2: THE DEVIL’S DOORWAY its DVD and Blu-ray debut October 15. Tenney’s follow-up to his Ouija-board hit has a young artist played by ’90s horror starlet Ami Dolenz discovering that her new apartment is haunted by a murdered former tenant, plunging her into a gruesome supernatural mystery. The cast also includes Timothy Gibbs, John Gatins (who would go on to write the Oscar-nominated screenplay for the Denzel Washington film FLIGHT), Julie Michaels and SNL’s Laraine Newman; the 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer will be accompanied by:
• Audio commentary by Tenney, Gatins and Michaels
• Behind-the-scenes featurette including interviews with Tenney, Dolenz, Newman, Gibbs, Michaels and others
• Two deleted scenes
• Two home video trailers
• Three TV spots
Retail prices are $24.95 for the DVD, $29.95 for the Blu-ray.
We also got confirmed special features for FRIGHT NIGHT 2: NEW BLOOD, which Fox issues on DVD and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack October 1. The sequel to the remake of Tom Holland’s classic sounds more like another remake itself; this time, female vampire Gerri Dandridge (see what they did there?), played by Jamie Murray from THE DEATHS OF IAN STONE and Syfy’s WAREHOUSE 13 and DEFIANCE, preys on a group of college students visiting Romania, including new iterations of Charley Brewster (Will Payne), “Evil Ed” (Chris Waller) and Amy Peterson (Sacha Parkinson), who seek help from reality-show host Peter Vincent (Sean Power). Directed by CURANDERO’s Eduardo Rodriguez from a script by WHITE NOISE 2 and MIRRORS 2’s Matt Venne, the film will be presented in anamorphic 2.00:1 widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on the DVD and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio on the Blu-ray, supplemented with:
• Audio commentary by Rodriguez and producers Alison R. Rosenzweig and Michael J. Gaeta
• FRIGHT NIGHT webisodes
• “Dracula Revealed” featurette
Retail prices are $22.98 for the DVD, $29.99 for the Blu-ray/DVD combo.
