EXCL: Barbara Crampton Joins Todd Freeman’s Body Horror, “LOVE SICK”

Few genre icons get to see resurgence as graceful as Barbara Crampton’s. The RE-ANIMATOR star seems to truly consider the contemporary projects she boards, making interesting choices and bringing fantastic presence to each one. And so, it’s no surprise she’s joined the cast one of the more intriguing horror films in development, Todd Freeman’s LOVE SICK. Already boasting Francisco Barreiro (HERE COMES THE DEVIL, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE) and AMERICAN MARY breakout Tristan Risk, the films aims to be a tough, body horror rumination on painful, long term relationships.

In LOVE SICK, Rebecca and Marcus have been together for 10 years and after much deliberation have decided to part ways. After separating and being with others, they quickly realize how hard it is to disconnect from one another. The pain, lies, and betrayal all begin to manifest physically within the both of them as well as infect the others who have become involved with intimately. They love each other so much that it hurts… some more than others.

Crampton will play the mother of Tristan Risk’s Rebecca and director Freeman says, “I wrote the role of Tristan’s Mother with Barbara in mind,  but the reality that she’s actually going to be in the film is a little surreal.  I would go through and name every movie that she’s been in and tell you what that movie meant to me when I first saw it… but I’m afraid that would take too much time. That, and everyone knows who she is and the amazing things that she’s contributed to the horror genre throughout the years.  This is a very special movie to me and I can’t even imagine having a better cast assembled to help bring these atrocities to the screen.”

LOVE SICK, as a feature, grew out of Freeman’s short M IS FOR MARRIAGE, which gained notoriety in the second ABCs OF DEATH Search for a Director competition. That film will be included in the upcoming THE ABCs OF DEATH 1.5: The 26th Director Edition. You can see it in full below, as well.

Production on LOVE SICK is expected to get underway in Summer 2014.
