Caesar & Co. intimidate in “DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES” Posters

At San Diego Comic-Con 2013, the first teaser footage from the Matt Reeves-directed sequel DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES premiered. It was atmospheric and often beautiful in setting up the future ape-ravaged world this new film exists in, and ended on an image (above) almost exactly like the new character posters. It was a full, intimidating look at Caesar and an army of apes, ready for war. At the time, I referred to it as stark, tough and very thrilling. It continues to be so, and it seems 20th Century Fox is anchoring their promotion for the film in it.

Mark 2014 with Charitable Women in Horror UK Calendar

As we’ve come to annually explore, via both coverage and critique, February has been carved out to celebrate Women in Horror. But of course, celebrating talented women filmmakers in genre and beyond is not, and should not be, some once-a-year ritual. Thus, London-based filmmaker Melanie Light has inventively crafted a reminder that women are creating and producing exciting and provoking genre film every day of the year: a calendar. What’s more, the Women in Horror UK calendar aims to divert from traditional, or cliched, pin-up style, instead highlighting the work of twelve UK horror artists (including cenobite and author Barbie Wilde, THE WOMAN star Pollyanna McIntosh and director Prano Bailey-Bond) and donating profits to worthwhile foundations.

Sweet & Scary are Side by Side in new “DEVIL’S DUE” Trailer

There’s a lot of fun to be had in the back-and-forth rhythm of audibly sweet sentiment and the visual perversion of such that plays out in the new trailer for upcoming found footage film DEVIL’S DUE. “This where me and your mom got married,” an expectant father tells his unborn child as a priest bleeds generously from the nose, vows are exchanged over unholy ritual and whether or not Radio Silence’s POV spin on the birth of the antichrist is indeed something to fear, it’s hard to not generate some goodwill with this latest clip.
