SXSW ’14: The Slashing Love-Hate Letter to Musical Theatre, “STAGE FRIGHT”

You could say the extremities of horror and musical theatre run parallel, so it’s not a surprise to find fans of both. And ultimately, when the paths do cross successfully, it’s a refreshing sweet spot. Just in recent years a musical staging of Stuart Gordon’s RE-ANIMATOR found much deserved acclaim, as has a short film by the name THE LEGEND OF BEAVER DAM. The director of the latter, Jerome Sable, is set to hit fests again this month after slaying audiences with BEAVER DAM, returning in full force with a full length blend of singing and slashing and dancing and dying entitled STAGE FRIGHT. FANGORIA spoke to Sable and composer/writing partner Eli Batalion in anticipation of STAGE FRIGHT’s world premiere and found more than just a preview, but a sort of two man show.

A Kabuki Killer at Musical Theatre Camp! The “STAGE FRIGHT” Red Band Trailer is Here

Jerome Sable’s THE LEGEND OF BEAVER DAM was a knockout short film that blended campfire horror story and rousing musical number into something unforgettable. For his feature debut, Sable is going even further, looking to explicitly engage a love and background of musical geekery for a slasher film set at theatre camp with plenty of blood spatter, dance numbers, a Kabuki mask and Meat Loaf.

Dieter Laser is Dressed like Tom Six in the first “HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3″ Photo

It seems there might be a lot of layers to HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3, the final sequence in Tom Six’s notorious, bizarre series of horror comedy films that seem to truly want to toy with their audience. You don’t even have to get beyond its first photo to figure such out, considering it includes both villains from previous installments (and the second took the first film into account), and Dieter Laser is pretty blatantly outfitted much like Six himself, panama hat sitting proud.

“JU-ON” Lives On, New “GRUDGE” Film Underway in Japan

Takashi Shimizu’s iconic Japanese horror series JU-ON (THE GRUDGE) has yielded nine films (six Japanese, three American), as well as novels and a video game.
