Bekah’s Ten: Lesser Known Found Footage Films

This past weekend, the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series delivered another dose of found footage fright with THE MARKED ONES.  By now, we’re all familiar with this immensely popular series, as well as THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST as pioneering greats of the medium. But, what of the stellar found footage horror out there that’s passed under the radar? The Year in Horror, 2013: Rebekah McKendry’s Best Of

2013 was a great year for indies. Studio horror pics were still there setting box office records, but the smaller films are the ones that fans clung to and championed. We also saw a burst of horror on television. Granted, SLEEPY HOLLOW, DRACULA, and others may not have been my first choice for scares, but just seeing the major networks support the genre warmed my horror-loving heart. Happy Holidays! Show Us Your Sweaters, Win a FANGORIA Shirt!

Gallery: Dead Right Horror Trivia Night’s Top Ten Halloween Costumes!

When FANGORIA and Shock Till you Drop decided to team-up to create a horror-based pub trivia night, we had no idea how popular it’d end up. Ryan Turek and I skillfully crafted our questions and game play, and fans showed up in droves. Now, ten months on, the monthly-event has a lengthy waiting list and continues to be super competitive and ridiculously fun. Being October, this past week we added one additional rule to the game play: all participants must come in costume or points will be deducted. Rather than suffer our point-dropping wrath, everyone dressed in festive attire, and considering this is a horror-geeky lot, we saw some astonishingly creative genre-based outfits. Check out the best below!

    “SCHISM” (Screamfest Movie Review)

Los Angeles’ Screamfest has become known as a place for indie films that might otherwise struggle for screenings to not only have a theatrical showing, but also catch the eyes of Hollywood’s major distributors. This year, the talk of the festival has been Adam Gierasch’s SCHISM, which screened this past Saturday night to a packed house. This reviewer attended without knowing anything about the film or what to expect, and can now safely say that it’s shocking, disturbing and possibly one of the best indie films so far this year.
