  • Q&A: Director Josh Forbes talks “CONTRACTED: PHASE II”

    ,

One of the more gruesome horror offerings of the last few years, CONTRACTED certainly raised a stir among fans of indie horror upon its release in late 2013. The film spread like wildfire over streaming services such as Netflix, and the divisive body horror flick rode a solid wave of momentum (and impressive VOD numbers) to CONTRACTED: PHASE II. Continuing the story exactly where the first film left off, director Josh Forbes looks to up the ante with the second film to make a bigger, badder follow-up than anyone could anticipate, and with FANGORIA screening the film in NYC this Tuesday, we caught up with Forbes to talk PHASE II, body horror and his future in fright fare…

  • “TROMA’S WAR” (Blu-ray Review)

    ,,

As an ardent fan of Troma and their history of releases, there’s always an odd relationship this writer has with TROMA’S WAR that can only be compared to that of film critics to Michael Cimino’s HEAVEN’S GATE. On one hand, TROMA’S WAR is a massively underrated gem, featuring stronger-than-anticipated performances, an epic sense of scope and production value (relative to Troma’s means) and a vibrant sense of over-the-top fun that stands alongside the biting satire in Lloyd Kaufman’s script. On the other hand, however, TROMA’S WAR is also infamous for being the film that almost put the nail in Troma’s coffin, and knocked down the independent brand below even their humble beginnings, so there’s an inherent contempt that Troma die-hards (undeservedly so) have for the film. But now that TROMA’S WAR is on Blu-ray, fright fans now have a perfect reason to revisit the film, considering it’s been given the high definition blessing on Troma itself.

  • Q&A: Screenwriter C. Robert Cargill talks “SINISTER 2”

    ,

Though SINISTER was a labor of love for many, there’s no two people who put their blood, sweat and tears into that film than Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. For Derrickson, SINISTER was a shot to work with a studio but without the restraints his previous big budget film had presented, while Cargill, a writer over at Ain’t It Cool News, had his first shot at having a script see the big screen. Luckily, the two saw the fruit of their work blossom into a horror phenomenon, and so their return behind the pen for SINISTER 2 was a welcome sign of confidence among horror die-hards. And with the film now in theaters, FANGORIA caught up with Cargill to talk all things SINISTER 2 and what eerie ideas didn’t make it to the page…

  • GWAR-B-Q 2015: GWAR Speaks! [NSFW]

    ,,

For heavy metal hounds who like their music with an unhealthy dose of splattery horror, the bar goes no higher than GWAR. The band’s foul-mouthed, superviolent stage show is a must-see for horror fans, and there’s few places better to see the band in their horrendous prime than at their annual GWAR-B-Q, the Richmond, Virginia-based music festival that brings GWAR’s messy aesthetics, delicious (and shockingly affordable) food and a line-up of musical monstrocities in one place. The 2015 edition of GWAR-B-Q has its own walkthrough attraction (with no one leaving unsullied with fake blood), appearances from bands as diverse as Down, The Dickies, MC Chris, Clutch and Dead Earth Politics, and much more. And, of course, what would FANGORIA’s appearance at GWAR-B-Q be without some face time with titular terror themselves, GWAR?!

  • Q&A: The Soska Sisters talk “VENDETTA”, “HELLEVATOR” & More…

    ,

When it comes to twin female directors working in the horror genre, there’s nary a pair working harder and more consistently than Jen and Sylvia Soska.
