  • Genre-Centric Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival Open For Submissions!

    ,

While the East Coast is quite an interesting hub for the genre world, there’s sadly not quite a definitive genre festival for the Northeastern U.S.  Although there are many admirable efforts, from Ithaca Fantastic to Boston Underground to NYCHFF, there’s no East Coast equivalent to the likes of Fantasia, Stanley, Fantastic Fest or TIFF. Yet this fall, another festival looks to potentially take that title as the genre-centric Philadelphia Unnamed Film Festival has announced its residency in Center City Philadelphia.

  • “PENNY DREADFUL: Season 3, Episode 1” (TV Review)

    ,,

In the history of PENNY DREADFUL, the series has often drawn praise from viewers and critics alike for embracing Gothic Horror storytelling. The show’s narrative often required as much patience as it did violence, and organically fleshed out its character relationships in a way that would drive these literary horror icons together. Yet for the third season of the series, the show’s approach takes a certain and noticeable stylistic shift that somewhat disregards its Gothic beginnings for a full-on golden age cinema revival, complete with a train robbery, more action-driven set pieces and less rumination on life-and-death.

    ,

In the past two years since the TWIN PEAKS revival was announced (as well as its rocky road to development), the few bits of casting speculation floating around the trades posited that Showtime’s third season would be somewhat of a career retrospective for David Lynch, with cast members from BLUE VELVET, WILD AT HEART, LOST HIGHWAY, MULHOLLAND DRIVE and more making their way into the series. However, no one could have guessed that TWIN PEAKS’ return would be as massive as it appears, as Deadline revealed the full cast line-up, which features collaborators new and old!

  • The Dreadful Ten: 10 Horror Films for Science Fans!

    ,,

One common misconception about the horror genre is that, due to their reliance on emotional response, they’re somehow intellectually weaker than standard dramatic cinema. Though that could be attributed to the amount of scare fare out there, having outproduced almost every comparative genre in the industry, there are certainly a good amount of horror films for the more scientific minds out there. So for this week’s Dreadful Ten, FANGORIA offers up 10 horror films best suited for science lovers!

  • Q&A: Adam Egypt Mortimer, Sarah Adina Smith & Nicholas McCarthy talk “HOLIDAYS”

    ,

One of the best aspects of contemporary horror anthology films is the diversity of cinematic visions that come with the territory. Whether a segment goes for gasps, laughs or dry-heaves, the fact that you get a different flavor of filmmaking with each passing tale is fantastic, especially for the curious fright fans out there who are likely to find themselves down a rabbit hole of the contributor’s past work. And when it comes to filmmakers, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more diverse array of styles and tones than in HOLIDAYS, now in select theaters and VOD from Vertical Entertainment. FANGORIA recently spoke to three of HOLIDAYS’ wicked directorial roster- THE MIDNIGHT SWIM’s Sarah Adina Smith, SOME KIND OF HATE’s Adam Egypt Mortimer, and THE PACT’s Nicholas McCarthy- about their respective segments, building universes and what’s next in their frightening filmography…
