  • “WE GO ON” (Film Review)

    ,,

The latest film from the directing duo behind YELLOWBRICKROAD, WE GO ON is a film that works so well because even despite the familiar thematic material as of late, it’s got the organic pacing and storytelling that feels so far removed from contemporary horror. In an age where scares-per-minute and body count are so often the barometer for “memorable” horror, WE GO ON adopts an aesthetic that feels incredibly natural, allowing the story to unfold with character moments and interactions that a big studio might automatically lose in the editing bay. But by preserving the spirit of the narrative, WE GO ON works better than most outings in the independent horror circuit, and does so while also being legitimately scary and unpredictable.

  • Has Dimension Films Scrapped “AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING”?

    ,

What the hell is up with the AMITYVILLE HORROR franchise? In an age where haunting horror was at the top of the box office, AMITYVILLE would be the ideal candidate for a reboot in this day and age. But after the slow death of David Bruckner’s AMITYVILLE: THE LOST TAPES, its rebirth as AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, the late 2014 release pull of its January 2015 theatrical bow, and reshoots and re-edits to bring the film down to a PG-13, one wonders what exactly it is about THE AWAKENING that is causing the hold-up. And now, with the suspicious lack of new trailer ahead of its imminent release, Dread Central reports that Dimension Films has once again pulled the Blumhouse-produced film from it’s April 1st release, and this time, it might be indefinitely.

  • Stream to Scream: “LUMBERJACK MAN”

    ,,

To be honest, this writer had no idea what he was getting into when tuning into LUMBERJACK MAN, one of the latest batch of After Dark’s 8 Films to Die For. However, by the time that the opening montage came to a close- in which two pancakes lead to a dissolve towards our protagonist’s breasts-, I knew that any chance for a traditional (read: serious) slasher film was out the window. Yet I had no idea just how much fun I’d be having with LUMBERJACK MAN, a film that’s equal part hysterical send-up and loving homage to the slasher movie mold.

  • SXSW Chiller “PET” Uncages First Clip

    ,

UPDATE/CORRECTION: On the August 22nd Edition of BLOOD LUST, producer Brian Yuzna told FANGO:

“I’m a part of a Spanish Company called Magic Lantern and we’re producing a project called PET, directed by Carles Torrens and starring Dominic Monaghan, Ksenia Solo, Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Parsons. It’s about a guy who works at an animal rescue in L.A., and he takes on a girl as a pet. Of course, things turn bad. That’s something to look out for.”

We are now being told by the film’s publicists that, despite Magic Lantern still having credit on the film, Brian Yuzna was not involved in the production and are kindly asking for us to make corrections reflecting that request. We are including Yuzna’s quote for context and are updating the article as such.

  • “DAMIEN: Season 1, Episode 1” (TV Review)

    ,,

When it comes to the pilot for DAMIEN, there is some good news and there is some not-so-good news. In terms of the former, DAMIEN is setting the stage for a horror series that’s not only blood and respectful to the original OMEN film, but also may be set the biggest scale for a horror series to date. Yet in terms of the latter, with the pilot laying ground and catching up unfamiliar viewers to THE OMEN mythology, the series doesn’t quite get the opportunity to establish its own identity in its inaugural outing.
