    While haunted house attractions are normally bound to the Halloween season, there has been a surge in permanent haunts that give horror junkies their thrills all year round. They can range from the gentler ‘PG Family Haunt’ to the extreme psychological haunt with the capacity to send one into therapy. Yet he common theme among the majority of the haunts is that you go through a darkened maze and, when you least expect it, a monster/ghoul/zombie/vampire etc. will jump out and frighten the lights out of you; in essence, it’s good, clean fun. However if you dig a little deeper, you will find organizations that take things to another level, and the Los Angeles-based ALONE: AN EXISTENTIAL HAUNTING falls into that category.

    Ralph Brekan is a prolific artist who has had an extensive career in the art world, exploring themes of popular culture and mass consumerism. Drawing heavily from the pop art movement and commercial artists of the ’60s and ’70s, Brekan’s designs blends those aesthetics with color theories applied by the abstract expressionists. His fine art has been exhibited in three continents, seven countries and eleven cities, making Brekan a recognizable figure throughout the international art scene. Brekan has managed to fuse his extensive background in fine art to working professionally in props and art departments for motion pictures and theatre.   • Recap: The 2014 Eyegore Awards & Universal Hollywood Horror Nights

    For those who do not know, the Eyegore awards are the “bad-ass version of the Oscars”, according to the fantastic Danny Trejo who presented a Gargoyle statuette to long time ‘compadre’ Robert Rodriguez at Friday night’s award ceremony held at Universal Studios. Yet the awards also mark the beginning of the Halloween season each year and honor outstanding artists in horror, as well as raising the curtain for the horror mazes at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights.
