Arrow Video Announces U.S. Blu-ray Releases for “BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR”, “THE STUFF”Movies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
Upon hitting U.S. shores in late 2014, Arrow Video has truly gone above and beyond to give the Criterion treatment to its genre releases, no matter how obscure. With deluxe high definition reissues of titles like Brian Yuzna’s SOCIETY, Mario Bava’s BLOOD AND BLACK LACE and Tobe Hooper’s EATEN ALIVE, Arrow Video proved they could stand with the domestic boutique big boys, and with their first title announcements for 2016, they’re coming out of the gate swinging once again.
First up is Arrow’s intention to stay in the Yuzna business, offering a stacked, 3-Disc Limited Edition Blu-ray for BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR! The package, which hits shelves on April 12th with a Region B UK release one day beforehand, offers a brand new 2K restoration of both the R-rated theatrical cut as well as the unrated cut of the film, approved by Yuzna himself. The release will also come with a brand new director’s commentary track, artwork by Gary Pullin (which you can see below), deleted scenes and two brand new making-of featurettes, including a FX doc with a wealth of behind-the-scenes footage.
Next up is Arrow’s release of THE ZERO BOYS, another title from ISLAND OF DEATH sleazemeister Nico Mastorakis! Also sporting a 2K, director-approved restoration, this set features a commentary track with NIGHT OF THE COMET’s Kelli Maroney (moderated by former FANGO editor Chris Alexander), new interviews with Mastorakis, Maroney and Nicole Rio and brand new cover art from Graham Humphreys. This title bleeds into the marketplace on April 26th, with the UK release dropping the previous day.
Lastly, but certainly not least, is the first U.S. Blu-ray release for Larry Cohen’s THE STUFF, featuring a 2K transfer struck from the original camera negative! This one-disc set features a making-of documentary on THE STUFF, an introduction/trailer commentary from REPO! director Darren Lynn Bousman and a collector’s booklet featuring the writing of Joel Harley. This release is not to be missed, so U.S. Blu-ray collectors should mark April 19th on their calenders to pick up this wicked release.
