“AMERICAN HORROR STORY” Season Four Titled “FREAK SHOW”; UPDATE: Cast, Story revealed
Creator and seeming Ringmaster of what already seemed like one has confirmed the Carnival setting of AMERICAN HORROR STORY’s fourth season.
And really, that’s all the news. But imagine the possibilities. From CALIGARI to THE UNKNOWN to FREAKS to FUNHOUSE to SANTA SANGRE, carnivals on screen have been places for the weird to really get out there. Since AMERICAN HORROR STORY is a series that essentially likes to throw every possible attraction in a given subgenre—and push on through even when they don’t stick, like the second half of COVEN—the carnival seems a perfect setting for Murphy, co-creator Brad Falchuk and especially their breakout, stylish director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.
UPDATE: EW has revealed Jessica Lange will be returning to AMERICAN HORROR STORY. In FREAK SHOW, she’ll play “a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S” in 1950 Jupiter, Flordia. “Her group of “unusuals”? Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy all play performers whom Lange’s character has rescued; Denis O’Hare and Emma Roberts are also in talks to return. Freak Show’s 13 episodes will track this group as they do anything to keep their business around.”
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW is expected this fall. In other news, I’m expecting far too much funnel cake in my system then, as well.
