“AFTERSHOCK” director and Eli Roth collaborator helming “GREEN INFERNO” sequel
While his latest film has only seen one public screening, Eli Roth and AFTERSHOCK director Nicolas López have announced plans to shoot a sequel to cannibal throwback THE GREEN INFERNO next year.
Reporting out of the Toronto International Film Festival (where THE GREEN INFERNO world premiered on Saturday), THR has word that Roth and Lopez have scripted BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO. Lopez says, “After writing and scouting all over Peru we realized that that THE GREEN INFERNO had an expansive universe and that we would love to visit it again and go deeper into the jungle. Our plan with BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO is to make a sequel in the tradition of ALIENS, where the creative team went bigger, darker and scarier into the unknown. Eli has been an amazing creative collaborator and has set the groundwork for an entire universe of stories we’re both incredibly excited to tell.”
As most everyone hasn’t yet seen THE GREEN INFERNO itself, any sort of plot has yet to be released. THE GREEN INFERNO, which screens again Monday September 9, sees a group of would-be activists trapped along the Amazon and fall victim to a cannibal tribe. Reviews sound as if the film is satirical, gory and a welcome return of Roth to the director’s chair.
