2016 Tromadance Full Line-up Announced!Movies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
It’s the time of the year to get Troma-tized! That’s right: Troma’s official, genre-centric film festival, Tromadance, returns this weekend for its 17th year, returning to The Paperbox (17 Meadow Street, Brooklyn, NY, for another year of absolutely free fun! And just this past week, the official film and event line-up was let loose on the world, revealing one of the festival’s strongest years to date!
The event, which takes place on Friday, July 29th from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. , and Saturday, July 30th from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m., has some fantastic feature films to its name: the first night’s headliner is the documentary RAIDERS!: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE, while day two offers up Liam Regan’s love letter to John Waters’ films BANJO, the bizarre POV feature BE MY CAT: A FILM FOR ANNE, and Jonathon Straiton’s completely bonkers NIGHT OF SOMETHING STRANGE. Shorts included in the festival include Alban Ravassard’s incredible film THE CALL (which recently turned heads at BiFan), Jill Gevargizian’s CALL GIRL (starring Tristan Risk & Laurence Harvey), Vivieno Caldinelli’s PORTAL TO HELL!, and the latest shorts from animator Emily Youcis, B.C. BUTCHER filmmaker Kansas Bowling, and genre vet Calvin Reeder.
Beyond those films, Tromadance also offers a wealth of live entertainment as well. Friday night will see a “Barnyard Bash” after-party, with bands such as Monkey Pudding Face, The Cowmen, and Moose Knuckle, while Saturday’s after-party features performances from Alan Merrill Band and Tragedy: All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees. Saturday will also host a panel entitled “Getting Your Movie Made in the Era of the P.C. Police”, featuring actor/podcaster Henry Zebrowski (THE CHARACTERS), producer Rose Ganguzza (KILL YOUR DARLINGS), musician Alan Merrill, and yours truly. And, of course, attendees can also take part in two days worth of raffles, complete with sponsored prizes and other Tromariffic goods.
