Last November at New York City’s 92YTribeca, fans of Robin Hardy’s 1973 British horror classic THE WICKER MAN got a special treat. Not only was a 35mm print of the movie screened with Hardy in attendance, but the director unveiled 10 minutes of clips from his latest feature THE WICKER TREE (formerly known as COWBOYS FOR CHRIST). Fango got a chance to speak with Hardy exclusively about the new project, which was partially encouraged by the misbegotten 2006 remake of THE WICKER MAN starring Nicolas Cage.

There aren’t many things left in this world you can get for $1, let alone something worth every penny of it. Buying a home pregnancy test at the dollar store (I’ve seen ’em!) is something you want to avoid. On the other hand, purchasing issue #1 of DC/Vertigo’s I, ZOMBIE is a buck well spent.

Volatile Games and Namco Bandai’s recently released DEAD TO RIGHTS: RETRIBUTION is the latest incarnation of the classic series that pits a lone-wolf cop and his faithful dog against the scum of fictional Grant City. This franchise has always been known for its innovations in a very well-worn genre: the third-person shooter.

Getting sick of all those handsome, young, well-dressed, romantic, glittery, wimpy vampires that keep popping up as of late? Do you crave the good ol’ days when the best way to deal with creatures of the night was to stake them, not kiss them? Do you prefer crimson blood over glistening sparkles? Well, take Top Cow Productions’ five-issue miniseries IMPALER Volume 2, and call me in the morning. That is, if you can survive the night.

The Royal Family Clothing Tour has been hitting cities all over the U.S. for the last month, and Fango was given access to two of the bands on the bill—Confide and headliners From First to Last—on the last date of the tour in Richmond, VA. This writer set out to investigate what kind of tour a clothing company can put together, and how these kinds of bands manage to draw hundreds of screaming girls to their shows without messing up their perfectly achieved sideswept hair.

The Australian-made SLAUGHTERED is the sort of movie that shouldn’t get overlooked in the current resurgence of slasher films, which includes all the franchise remakes/reimaginings like HALLOWEEN/FRIDAY THE 13TH, new attempts to establish unstoppable killers such as HATCHET and LAID TO REST or its low-budget, comical Aussie contemporary I KNOW HOW MANY RUNS YOU SCORED LAST SUMMER. To put it simply, SLAUGHTERED has been made by someone with more than a clue, and who has been as relentless as any disfigured maniac to get her movie across the finish line without sacrificing the entertainment experience.

Richard Clabaugh, the cinematographer (THE PROPHECY, PHANTOMS) turned director (PYTHON), gave us a few words about his new sci-fi thriller EYEBORGS, which stars Adrian Paul, Megan Blake, Luke Eberl and Danny Trejo (pictured). The movie hits DVD and Blu-ray July 6 from Image Entertainment.

One would expect a film with supernatural elements in which the pivotal event is the murder of a 14-year-old girl by a serial killer to be a horror film, a thriller, a revenge story or some combination of all of the above. Yet THE LOVELY BONES (now out on DVD and Blu-ray from Paramount) is none of the above.

There was a time when horror fans had to wait what seemed like eternities for George A. Romero to trot out his legion of ever-evolving, human-flesh-devouring zombies again. Heck, after 1985’s splatterific (and only recently revered) DAY OF THE DEAD, they had to wring their undead-deprived hands for two decades until, in 2005, Hollywood eventually helped the celebrated filmmaker bring his bigger-budgeted LAND OF THE DEAD to light.

It’s reunion day on the set of THE DESCENT: PART 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Neil Marshall’s critically acclaimed and globally popular 2005 horror hit. The “six chicks with picks” stars of THE DESCENT are back together again for one day only, to film scenes discovered on a camcorder deep in the caves where they went missing.

With the remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET pleasing or pissing off hardcore Freddy fans, and a new documentary on the previous franchise called NEVER SLEEP AGAIN giving us an in-depth look at all things Krueger-related, FANGORIA invites you to take a stroll back down Springwood’s Elm Street. We’ve tracked down some of the tormented boys and girls who suffered those awful night terrors to tap their memories of that infamous street—in waking life and in terrifying dreamscapes…

“Since I made my first short film, I thought that I could make my first feature. So as soon as they called me to direct THE NEW DAUGHTER, I felt I was ready,” says Luis Berdejo, who did indeed make his debut foray into full-length filmmaking with the Kevin Costner-starrer. Known mostly for his screenwriting work in Spain, including the now-modern-classic [REC] and one of the 6 FILMS TO KEEP YOU AWAKE (A CHRISTMAS TALE), Berdejo hopped a States-bound plane in 2008 to helm this spooky family drama in South Carolina.
