Formerly titled PREY, THE OUTBACK is an Australian terror-in-the-desert chiller hitting DVD July 13 from Xenon Pictures. It stars Jesse Johnson (Don’s son) and singer/actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte, and you can check out the new trailer after the jump.

Not to be confused with the JINN we told you about here, DJINNS (a.k.a. STRANDED) is Hugues and Sandra Martin’s upcoming military survival horror film. The premise involves invisible demons that attack a squad of elite soldiers in the desert; martial artist and DISTRICT B13 star Cyril Raffaelli (pictured) heads the cast.

Are there any movies being made today that aren’t 3-D? Wes Craven’s MY SOUL TO TAKE (formerly titled 25/8) is the latest 2-D film to get the postproduction 3-D conversion.

UK sales outfit Jinga Films has specialized in interesting fright fare (it’s repping Srdjan Spasojevic’s controversial shocker A SERBIAN FILM, among others, at the current Cannes Film Festival). Now the company has set up its own genre banner, UXB, and announced its first pair of projects.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has revealed a DVD release date and details for UNDER THE MOUNTAIN, New Zealand director/co-writer Jonathan King’s follow-up to his recent cult fave BLACK SHEEP. The company also released cover art for its previously announced disc of the gorefest NEIGHBOR.

After directing SESSION 9 and THE MACHINIST, Brad Anderson has been keeping busy in TV, helming episodes of MASTERS OF HORROR, FEAR ITSELF, FRINGE and TREME. His TRANSSIBERRIAN went under the radar, but Anderson’s latest film, VANISHING ON 7TH STREET, sounds like it could be an intimate and very dark spin on the postapocalyptic picture. This rat is of a known origin—Kenta Fukasaku. The BATTLE ROYALE 2 director’s new film is about a rat-masked killer who goes on a nighttime rampage against a group of students. This second trailer introduces the potential victims, but beware, it’s rather revealing.

“HEAVY RAIN, HEAVY RAIN. I only wanted to see you drowning in the HEAVY RAIN…” Unique Features, the film shingle started by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne after leaving New Line Cinema, has posted the top bid for the screen rights to HEAVY RAIN, the Quantic Dream video game about a serial killer who drowns his victims.

Yesterday we gave you the scoop from George A. Romero regarding his reported plans to helm a 3-D remake of buddy Dario Argento’s DEEP RED (see item here), and today we get into the meat of our exclusive video chat with the zombie godfather.

Dark Castle’s THE FACTORY is another cop-pursuing-a-serial-killer film from actor-turned-director Morgan O’Neill. The movie—which stars 1408’s John Cusack and DEXTER’s Jennifer Carpenter—is set up to be released by Warner Bros, but was pulled from its original January 2011 release date.
