SHADOWMAN has been an iconic staple in the superhero community since 1992, though few outside of the fan army remember him with the same tenacity as his more famous Marvel and DC counterparts. Flickering in and out of the spotlight, Valiant's own flagship superhero was at one point selling 100,000 comic books a month, rivaling that of Batman and Superman and penned by some the greatest in the industry, like Garth Ennis, Frank Miller and Steve Ditko. But, as many publishers found themselves in the early 2000s, Valiant's owner company, Acclaim, shut down all production in anticipation of bankruptcy and singlehandedly ended the careers of not just SHADOWMAN, but the entire Valiant universe.

It’s easy to dismiss the studio behind such films as MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS, TRANSMORPHERS, DEATH RACERS, THE TERMINATORS and countless others. Low production values, dubious attempts at association with A-list titles, sub-par acting; there are plenty of reasons one can dredge up scorn to heap on this studio. It’s almost too easy. That is why today I’m going to ask you to reconsider those thoughts and look a bit deeper into The Asylum its place is in the world of cinema.

Mark Hartley's (NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD) long gestating remake of the 1978 Australian oddity PATRICK has finally gotten underway. First photo and full cast below.

The MAY director is revisiting one of his earliest projects.

They're certainly not selling themselves short. And it's kind of cool.

The house looms over Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga in this first look from modern day PSYCHO riff.

This exclusive, one of a kind, hand-crafted, table-top coffin, made from solid woods, lined with blood-red damask over organic cotton batting, was crafted by the resident Zombie at Braided Oaks Spirits with great affection for Fangoria fans everywhere and all the twisted enjoyment the horror genre represents.

James Wan, Leigh Whannell and the principal cast of INSIDIOUS are moving on to the sequel.

Things continue to get buggy for Dustin Warburton. While the East Coast—based writer has been busy juggling horror fiction (TASTE, STRANGE THINGS and MORTICIANS FOOD), young adult novels and children’s books (including THE LITTLE MONSTERS GUIDE ON HOW TO SCARE CHILDREN), as well as co-authoring books with major sports figures like Dennis Rodman (!), he now makes his motion-picture debut this year with the big bug flick SPIDERS 3D, produced by that nature amok/Syfy-friendly Nu Image company. Warburton whipped up the story for recent festival-fave SPIDERS 3D with veteran frightmaster Tibor Takacs (THE GATE, ICE SPIDERS, I, MADMAN, etc.), who then handed final screenwriting chores to Joseph Farrugia.

HOME SWEET HOME (playing Brooklyn's Nitehawk Cinema as part of VHS Vault) is what happens when a maniacal muscle man escapes from an insane asylum and decides to kill some of the most annoying characters ever shown onscreen.

THE WALKING DEAD has really learned how to master the pre-credit sequence. No exception, “Hounded” sets the tone from the word “go”. Merle and some good ol’ boys from Woodbury are on a hunt for Michonne and as they discover, Michonne is hunting back. She gives them the straight up Viet Cong guerrilla treatment, first with a message written in downed walkers and then a brutal ambush where she takes down half the hunting party with her katana. Merle does manage to wound her, but it’s beyond clear she isn’t helpless prey.

Life's hard when you’re a big, ugly mug of man who looks like he can take a hit to the head. It's even harder when the thugs who want to beat you up are zombies, robots, and man-eating hobos. Welcome to the life of THE GOON, where every day you need watch your back or you'll be getting a knife to the eye. It's a world of monsters, men, and booze, where horror and hilarity clash like titans.
