Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, is building up quite a packed slate for this winter and beyond. In addition to Ti West’s THE INNKEEPERS, the multidirector anthology THE ABC’s OF DEATH and Panos Cosmatos’ BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW, Magnet just added the Christian Slater-starrer PLAYBACK to its lineup.

Magnet picked up U.S. rights to the movie from Celluloid Nightmares, and plans to launch it next February on its Ultra VOD digital program followed by theatrical release in March. Written and directed by Michael A. Nickles, PLAYBACK (see some exclusive pics here) also stars Ambyr Childers, Toby Hemingway, Jonathan Keltz, Jennifer Missoni, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Johnny Pacar and Alessandra Torresani, and is set in a small town where a group of teens looking into the area’s dark past accidentally release an evil, possessive spirit. “PLAYBACK is very scary and a lot of fun,” says Magnolia/Magnet president Eamonn Bowles. “We think it will be a hit with horror fans.” An e-novella prequel, PLAYBACK: LIGHT AND SHADOW by Elizabeth Massie, is available at Amazon.com and other sources; see the trailer below and find out more at the film’s official website and Facebook page
