Following yesterday’s BURKE AND HARE photo debut (see item here), Fango checked in with the director, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON’s John Landis, to get the scoop on the film. Busy cutting his movies, Landis gave us a few fun tidbits regarding his romp about the infamous 19th-century Scottish graverobbers. Expect more soon.

FANGORIA: How historically accurate is BURKE AND HARE?

JOHN LANDIS: About 65 percent.

FANG: What is the film’s tone: horror, comedy, drama or a mix of all those?

LANDIS: I would describe this as a very black romantic comedy. Although there are some grisly moments, this is not at all a horror film.

FANG: What’s the storyline?

LANDIS: For that, you’ll have to wait and see.

FANG: What sets BURKE AND HARE apart from the previous movies dealing with these body snatchers?

LANDIS: The real Burke and Hare were not graverobbers; they were murderers.

FANG: What was it like working with Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, your lead actors?

LANDIS: Great.

FANG: Is this a Hammer throwback?

LANDIS: Only if Hammer ever made a very black romantic comedy. [BURKE AND HARE is] more like the elegant black comedies of Ealing Studios, i.e. KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS or THE LADYKILLERS.

FANG: What are the release plans for the movie?

LANDIS: BURKE AND HARE opens in the UK this Halloween. As of now, there is no U.S. distributor.

FANG: Any thoughts/update on the AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON remake?

LANDIS: I hope they make it, and I hope it’s good.
