In the last few weeks, reader Bryan Kupko bombarded both Fango editor Chris Alexander and me with angry e-mails, calling us out for not putting the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake on the cover of either FANGORIA #292 (April; my last as chief) or #293 (June; Chris’ first). What a switch that was. Back in the 1980s, when Freddy’s burned mug showed up on the cover of Fango and our spinoffs (GOREZONE, HORROR SPECTACULAR, FANGORIA POSTER MAGAZINE, HORROR VIDEO, etc.) at least two dozen times over a 10-year period, some readers berated us for the constant Krueger exposure. “Not another Freddy cover!” they’d cry. Wow, how times have changed.

Mention Joe Gage to any gay man of a certain age, and the response will be something along the lines of “L.A. TOOL & DIE is the best gay porn film…ever.” But unless they’re checking Gage’s IMDb credits, they probably don’t realize he also directed a handful of direct-to-video horror/sci-fi films in the ’80s under the name Tim Kincaid, including MUTANT HUNT and ROBOT HOLOCAUST.

It has been a long time since I’ve been an active presence at a horror convention. When I worked for that “other magazine,” I immersed myself in all manner of geek-out goings-on, from moderating Q&As with legends like Dario Argento, Elvira and Jeffrey Combs to performing a duet of “The South’s Gonna Rise Again” with H.G. Lewis. It was a blast being able to do these James Lipton-esque riffs with my horror heroes in front of a captive audience. I loved it. And you know what? I’ve missed it…

Understand this:

Just because I have been writing for FANGORIA for 29 years, when I was designated the magazine’s first—and only—official British correspondent, and have possibly have had more cover stories than any other scribe who has contributed to the red-soaked publication…I am not a gorehound.

Hello horror fans! My name is Jeff Tuttle, and I play guitar in a band called The Dillinger Escape Plan. I know there’s nothing more cliché than a rock musician who loves fright flicks, but what can I say? I can’t get enough of the red stuff. I was just 9 years old when I saw Umberto Lenzi’s GHOSTHOUSE and I’ve yet to look back. From that point on, I’ve been on a never-ending quest to seek out the best (and subsequently finding many of the worst) that the genre has to offer.

When I was a teenager, I had this bad habit of dropping out of school. I must have gone to six different high schools before finally graduating. So what made me finally finish? Well, it was reading H.P. Lovecraft.
