In this excellent
follow-up, ’68 #2 (Image Comics) pits an unforgettable zombie infestation in
the middle of Vietnam War, following a platoon of soldiers who unfortunately
find themselves lost in the enormous forests and abandoned villages.
With nonstop brawling
action and witty one-liners, HELLBOY: THE FURY #1 (Dark Horse Comics) is a
highly entertaining piece of monster extravaganza. After learning more about
his true origins, Hellboy unfortunately faces the consequences of losing his
left eye. The dead are rising from their graves to serve a deadly and powerful
master, a violent war is about to erupt, and there’s nothing Hellboy can do to
stop it.
Surprisingly emotional,
smart and fun, B.P.R.D.: THE DEAD REMEMBERED #3 (Dark Horse Comics) is a
sufficiently creepy story about witches and haunted forests. It’s a flashback
episode, an origin tale, about one of the supernatural agents from the Bureau
of Paranormal Research and Defense—a secret organization that investigates
mystical threats. This issue does a great job of fleshing out the series’
supporting character Liz Sherman, finally giving her a starring role.
Hilarious and over-the-top amusing, horror fans are in for
something different with DOC MACABRE (IDW Publishing)! Meet the weirdest kid on
the planet and quite possibly the most dangerous person in Los Angeles. Come on
over and meet the monster hunter who truly loves his job! This must-buy trade
paperback edition collects the purely entertaining three-issue miniseries.
Action-packed and
over-the-top bloody, HACK/SLASH #4 (Image Comics) is a knockout installment to
this spectacular horror series. Vlad, the gentle giant, is no longer interested
in being the sidekick of slasher slayer Cassie Hack. These two partners can no
longer count on each other, especially when the other is in danger. As the
partnership is coming to an end, their close friends are caught in the middle
of a bloody war between two slashers! With the lives of their friends at stake,
if these two teammates can work out their problems, they just might be able to
save them…
Undeniably intense and
unsettling, the follow-up issue of HELLRAISER #2 (BOOM! Studios) is a
must-read. Bleaker and bloodier, “Pursuit Of The Flesh” grabs its reader’s
attention and never lets go. Back in the right hands of its original creator,
Clive Barker continues to tell a thrilling new chapter to the franchise’s
mythology. The narrative is exceptionally well-written, and the artwork sets
the perfect mood for a horror comic.
In its third installment,
GREEN WAKE (Image Comics) brilliantly hits its mark and elevates its material
to another level. In a desperate search, a delusional detective just might lose
the trail of a brutal killer. Overwhelmed by painful flashbacks, the unstable
detective is about to lose his sense of reality at any moment. Readers will be
blown away by GREEN WAKE’s surrealistic artwork and riveting storytelling.
