One of the great things about the undead is that you can tell a good zombie tale in just about any setting. Terminal Press evidently agrees, and has released ZOMBIEBOMB! DEAD NOT DEAD, a collection of short stories, pinups and more from myriad artists.
Ranging from five-to-six-page short stories to one-page strips, ZOMBIEBOMB!’s contents show you don’t need a lot of room to have a lot of fun with the reanimated. Joe Haley’s single-page “An Honest Question” may well be the highlight of the book, and Matty Field and Ed Foster’s “Cap’n Zombie and the Unfortunate Mister Hufflemittens” is another highlight among some outstanding tales. The various artists all give it their best, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.
Stories range from fully illustrated comics to single-page paintings to mostly text stories with some illustrations for flavor, and almost every one turns out splendidly. The transitions can be a little jarring; jumping from the fully illustrated “Chores” to the mostly text “The Cargo” comes as a bit of a jolt, but adjustment comes quickly as the next story takes the baton and runs with it. There’s very little here not to like.
ZOMBIEBOMB! DEAD NOT DEAD is the first in a series of similarly themed anthologies planned by Terminal Press. If future editions are even half as good as this initial outing, undead fans are in for one hell of a ride. You can order it with two variant covers here.
