When it comes to reviews, most books can at least drag a “pretty good” or “not bad” from the mouths of critics. But when the words “masterpiece” and “unforgettable” are thrown around, one can’t help but wonder what all the fuss is about. NEVERLAND, the new novel by author Douglas Clegg (ISIS, AFTERLIFE, THE PRIEST OF BLOOD, etc.) from Vanguard Press, has been lauded by Publisher’s Weekly as a “haunting story redolent with the influence of Arthur Machen, H.P. Lovecraft, and other classic horror writers.” If you’re craving a southern Gothic horror tale that isn’t about Rednecks in overalls “not taking kindly” to some city folk, that slowly builds dread as opposed to cheap, gory descriptions, NEVERLAND may be for you.

Clive Barker’s NIGHTBREED, the dark fable about monsters without and within, began life as a short novel called CABAL and was later adapted by the author to direct himself for the big screen. After numerous setbacks and compromises, the movie was released, with little fanfare, in 1990 by 20th Century Fox. But what audiences saw and what the artist envisioned were two very different things.

Creep Street is a very colorful and fun brand of clothing that’s heavily inspired by both the ’80s and the horror genre. With their neon colors and flamboyant monster designs, the clothing is just as outspoken and attention-grabbing as Creep Street’s creators, Boris and Chip.

At this point in the history of cinema, and more specifically horror cinema, the description “a group of friends head to a cabin” is enough to make any moderately experienced genre fan sick, and not without good reason. For almost 30 years now, we’ve been inundated with flicks that displace youth into the woods, only for them to fall prey to a masked killer/hungry monster/evil spirit that just happens to reside there. So what exactly is different about THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO’S POND, which is just such a story, you ask? A lot, in fact.

Ask most people (of a certain age) about Tiffany, and they’ll immediately envision the 17-year-old singer whose album sales broke records in the mid-’80s. That enduring image is probably why Tiffany the Scream Queen is such an intriguing proposition. Pursuing acting in between recording and touring has led Tiffany to her first lead performances in NECROSIS (on DVD April 20 from Brink), featured opposite HEROES’ James Kyson-Lee and horror icon Michael Berryman, and MEGA PIRANHA, debuting this Saturday, April 10 on Syfy ahead of disc release by The Asylum on the 27th.

“Guilt has no mercy!” These words are the theme of the new fright film VINDICATION, created by New York-based writer/director/cinematographer Bart Mastronardi, which hits DVD next Tuesday, April 13 from R2 Films on its Big Bite label. Guilt, madness and horror aside, with VINDICATION there is definitely no mercy.
