FANGORIA® HORROR MOVIES AND TV

Edgar Allan Poe. His name isn’t just synonymous with horror; he’s one of the prized few who have given it artistic validity. And if you want to adapt any of his work, you damn well better do it right, or fear the wrath of his rabid fan base—always a tough crowd. Stepping up to the plate is THE TOMB, a modern reimagining of Poe’s short story “Ligeia” and one of the films in the FANGORIA FrightFest lineup (along with PIG HUNT, FRAGILE, ROAD KILL, DARK HOUSE, THE HAUNTING, GRIMM LOVE and HUNGER), which are currently available exclusively through Blockbuster stores and Blockbuster By Mail, as well as digitally via Blockbuster On Demand.

Last December, the producers of RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE granted FANGORIA exclusive access to the Toronto set of the fourth chapter in their action/horror franchise, derived from the best-selling Capcom video games. For 10 weeks, right up to AFTERLIFE’s September 10 release by Screen Gems, Fangoria.com will be presenting a series of one-on-one interviews with the movie’s cast and crew.

Today we continue our exclusive chat with writer/director Neil Marshall, the acclaimed British director of DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT and DOOMSDAY, whose latest film, the bloody Roman adventure flick CENTURION, opened in theater yesterday (see list of venues here). You can see Part One of our interview here.

During last month’s San Diego Comic-Con, Fango had the pleasure of meeting artist David Castro, creator of Taco Comics. Fans have seen his horrifically stylized T-shirts, hats and drawings at numerous conventions, and Castro subsequently spoke with us about his artwork and his interests in the horror genre.

Simply put, CENTURION is a blast. The fourth film from DESCENT director Neil Marshall hits theaters today in limited release from Magnolia/Magnet Releasing (see official website and list of theaters here), and is nothing short of a solid, period action film with plenty of gore and badass-ery throughout. Marshall recently sat down for an exclusive interview with FANGORIA to discuss Romans, Picts, the Middle East and everything in between. Hit the break to check it out!

Actress Briana Evigan has been all over the fright genre in the last couple of years, yet she has managed not to do the same kind of horror story twice. She faced zombies in FEAR ITSELF’s NEW YEARS DAY episode, a slasher in SORORITY ROW and the surreal genre-blending of S. DARKO, with the home-invasion shocks of Darren Lynn Bousman’s MOTHER’S DAY coming up next. And this month saw Lionsgate’s DVD release of BURNING BRIGHT, an animal-attack entry in which Evigan shares the screen with a very hungry tiger.

Horror sometimes makes good bedfellows with other genres, producing strange and exciting genetic mashups. EVIL DEAD II is a horror/comedy with both chainsaw dismemberment and Three Stooges-style slapstick. NEAR DARK is a horror/Western with bloodsucking vampires roving the desert as lawless bandits. PIG HUNT is…well, not that easy to describe. While the straight synopsis would tell you it’s about a group of people who go into the forests of Northern California to hunt down an SUV-size boar, that really doesn’t do the film justice.
