Much like his character in the movie, Dev Patel hit the jackpot when Danny Boyle cast him as the lead of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. And the 20-year-old actor is hoping his second feature film, M. Night Shyamalan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER, gives him as much good fortune.

Elaborating on our report in FANGORIA #295 (on sale now), here’s a complete rundown of how all of the nominees ranked, in descending order, with write-ins also acknowledged:

In our third set-visit interview with a cast member from THE LAST AIRBENDER, we spoke with Shaun Toub, the veteran actor who you might remember as the trusted friend and scientist Yinsen, who saves Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) life in IRON MAN. In M. Night Shyamalan’s film (now in theaters), Toub plays Prince Zuko’s (Dev Patel) Uncle Iroh.

Premiering this Saturday, July 3 at the New York Asian Film Festival is a double dose of Japanese cinematic extremity, in the form of the first two installments from Nikkatsu Studios’ freshly minted Sushi Typhoon label: ALIEN VS. NINJA (pictured left) and MUTANT GIRLS SQUAD. In preparation for the screenings and the launch of Sushi Typhoon, Fango tossed a few questions to the films’ directors.

Not since SHOCK WAVES have so many underwater zombies been slogging through murky water to menace the living. Here on the Toronto set of RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE, a group of soggy ghouls have emerged from a flooded stairwell at the LA County Correctional Facility, where film series heroine Alice (Milla Jovovich) and her allies (including game hero Chris Redfield, played by PRISON BREAK’s Wentworth Miller) are holed up and scrounging for weapons. According to APOCALYPSE producer Don Carmody, the scene being shot takes place in the “end of the middle third of the film,” and Fango is here to witness some killer undead action.

Coming out in 2-D, RealD 3D and digital 3-D, M. Night Shyamalan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER hits theaters July 1. In our second set interview (click here to read the Nicola Peltz-Noah Ringer chat), THE DAILY SHOW’s Aasif Mandvi spoke about playing Admiral Zhao, the hot-tempered Fire Nation Commander in pursuit of the Avatar (Ringer). He is Zuko's (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE’s Dev Patel) principal rival.

STARLOG Magazine started covering the world of SF & fantasy in 1976. Its sister magazine, FANGORIA, has been “America’s Horror Magazine” since 1979. For the time being, STARLOG Magazine and its website are no longer operating. However, the SF, fantasy and comics universe is still going strong, and so we will be keeping the STARLOG brand alive via Fangoria.com. Inaugurating STARLOG’s return to web will be a series of on-set interviews with the cast & crew of M. Night Shyamalan’s fantasy epic.
