FEARFUL FEATURES

It's the end of the year and online, that means lists. We here at FANGORIA, in addition to making our own, thought it'd be fun to reach out to a few genre stalwarts and see what they thought of the last twelve months. Hit the jump to check out what Chromeskull himself, Nick Principe, had to say about 2010—

There weren’t enough awesome horror films in 2010 that left a deep impression in me to make a Top Ten. But I did manage a Top Five.

The following are the pictures that I can recall staying with me the longest this year.

Like most Americans during the holiday season, I’m making that magical mystery tour to visit every relative and half-relation I have. Obviously not alone on this busy highway, I’ll use this bumper-to-bumper time to sum up the year that was 2010.

As I sat and waited for Santa’s fat ass to squeeze down my chimney with a Kinect, I took a moment to reflect on all the games that weren’t CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS (yes, there were others).  See below for my favorite gaming entries to the year 2010, in no particular order.

This late, startlingly chilly NYC December marks my first attempt at writing and posting a Top 10 list of any sort; I was worried. I began to realize that as far as the genre was concerned, I didn’t know if I really thought enough of 10 films to give them best-of-the-year-style praise. Feeling slightly down, I’ve since perused a list of releases, and, once I shook up my memory a bit, found enough to get me pretty animated—and what’s more, as my premiere foray into a bit of listmaking, came up with a mix of films that I feel just might be a fitting representation of who I am as a filmgoer, horror fan and writer. Let’s hop to it…

It was quite an interesting year for genre cinema—one reason being that a number of its best examples weren’t strictly fright films, but mixed horror elements into stories with other emotional beats. This made for quite a welcome variety amidst the usual remakes, sequels and trend-hoppers.

It’s the last hour of filming, and writer/director Drew Daywalt is talking the cast and crew through the final scenes of MY NAME IS KRIS KRINGLE, his twisted Christmas short which will debut on this very website tomorrow, December 22. Come with us as Fango continues its exclusive MY NAME IS KRIS KRINGLE set visit and shares some exclusive pics and interviews below the jump.

The year 2010 is almost over—and what a year it was for horror in the theaters!

At the beginning of the year, though, the genre got off to a slow start with films like LEGION and THE WOLFMAN (pictured left). Scott Stewart’s LEGION was so convoluted that it was almost offensive. The writing was weak so the acting suffered, and the plot barely made sense—perhaps because of the editor’s ax? I’m still not sure. Blech.
