Bong Joon-ho, director of the much praised South Korean imports MEMORIES OF MURDER and THE HOST, has been receiving a heap of critical love on his latest thriller, MOTHER (see our review). Distributed by Magnolia Pictures, MOTHER is currently rolling out nationwide, and below we present the second part (see the first here) to our exclusive interview with the incredibly talented filmmaker. Check it out below!
The film follows an aging single mom (a superb Hye-ja Kim), whose 27-year-old son is still quite dependent on her and has trouble functioning normally in society. After a night out, the son walks home alone and finds himself caught up in and accused of the murder of a young high school girl. His arrest causes his protective matriarch to become a detective in her own right, stopping at nothing to prove her offspring’s innocence.
In the second part of his discussion with FANGORIA’s Tony Timpone, Joon-ho talks about the making of MOTHER and the lasting impact of THE HOST, his internationally loved monster movie.
