Think you can’t be scared by a PG-13 horror movie? Think again, as INSIDIOUS (opening this Friday from FilmDistrict) will have you screamin’ for your mama! The creators of the SAW and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchises have teamed up for this superscary haunted fright flick, which has chilled the blood of the most hardened horror fanatic. This week Fangoria.com has been presenting exclusive video chats (directed and edited by ace videographer Bill Hall) with INSIDIOUS director James Wan and actor/writer Leigh Whannell. Today we wrap our two-part interview with Wan (track back from our last installment here for previous pieces), who discusses shooting digital and working with the incomparable Lin Shaye (2001 MANIACS, DEAD END, SNAKES ON A PLANE).
INSIDIOUS pays tribute to such horror classics as CARNIVAL OF SOULS, THE EXORCIST and POLTERGEIST. Renais (28 WEEKS LATER’s Rose Byrne) and her husband Josh (HARD CANDY’s Patrick Wilson) are still unpacking boxes in their new home when she first senses a sinister presence. Eerie events steadily escalate into supernatural attacks, until one day oldest son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) slips into a baffling coma. The parents abandon their ghost-ridden abode and attempt to heal their broken family, turning to an unorthodox expert in paranormal occurrences (Shaye). Chillingly, they soon discover—it’s not the house that’s haunted… Barbara Hershey (BLACK SWAN, THE ENTITY, RIDING THE BULLET) costars in the film, which was produced by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’s Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider.
