Syfy has unveiled its first promo clip for HAVEN, the new series based on Stephen King’s novella THE COLORADO KID. While it looks more fantastical than horror-oriented (and seems an awful lot like the channel’s EUREKA), it is King-inspired, so spend 30 seconds checking it out and deciding for yourself.

Genre fans living in the LA area are in luck. From June 17-27, the 16th annual Los Angeles Film Festival will be premiering new films from around the globe, several of which are hotly anticipated genre flicks such as MONSTERS, THE LAST EXORCISM, BITTER FEAST and ALL ABOUT EVIL, as well as CENTURION, the bloody Roman epic from writer/director Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT, DOG SOLDIERS).

If you’ve seen Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza’s [REC], you no doubt remember “the Medeiros girl.” (And if you haven’t seen it, stop reading, run out and get a copy of the movie and watch it, preferably with a strong sound system and all the lights out.)

FANGORIA’s FrightFest (see previous item here and go to www.fangoriafrightfest.com for more details) is nearing its summer debut, and one of the films yearning for your votes to win a theatrical release in the on-line sweepstakes is the haunted-attraction flick DARK HOUSE (see exclusive DVD art below the jump), written and directed by Darin Scott (producer of TALES FROM THE HOOD, THE OFFSPRING and STEPFATHER II) and starring horror vet Jeffrey Combs of RE-ANIMATOR fame.

The monster matchup of the…month, at least, is here: Syfy has DINOCROC VS. SUPERGATOR ready to hit the tube. Roger and Julie Corman produced the movie, which stars David Carradine in one of his final screen roles.

2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS is heading for R and unrated DVD release via First Look on July 20, and now the company’s trailer for Tim Sullivan’s outrageous horror/comedy sequel has hit the web.

We’re all looking forward to the impending release of MONSTERS, the indie science fiction/horror/road movie that knocked out audiences at South by Southwest and got snapped up by Magnet Releasing for theatrical play in October. Now a making-of clip with writer/director Gareth Edwards has been released via Best Buy, of all places, and you can see it after the jump.

FANGORIA has another sweet contest for horror fans, this time from the new film WOMEN’S STUDIES, which releases to DVD on June 8th. Directed by Lonnie Martin, STUDIES is about a group of students who become trapped by a group of homicidal feminists. Check out how to snag the film and a bunch of other prizes after the jump!

We horror fans know that scary movies come in all different flavors. Those of us who have taken the time to sample these flavors know that while delicious cinematic meals can be found at the fanciest of restaurants, they can also be found at the bottom of the dumpsters out back. The vast majority can appreciate the DEAD ALIVEs, and the like, but what about the SLEEPAWAY CAMPs, and other such garbage? The films even a mother has a hard time loving. We horror fans find a type of perverse satisfaction in reveling in these tragically horrible disasters that is akin to watching a clown car crash. Sure, they’re on fire and bleeding amongst the burning wreck, but they’re juggling and trying to extinguish the flames with seltzer bottles that keep spraying them in the face. We can’t help but stare and laugh. In other words, if you are going to make a horror film you need to make a choice. Either shoot for greatness, or aim for the toilet bowl. We simply do not have time or patience for anything in between.

The FIREFLY actor (who can also be seen in the upcoming TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, which is now playing the festival circuit and due at Montreal’s Fantasia this summer) has signed on to star in writer/director Chris Gabriel’s zombie comedy.

BLACK CHRISTMAS. CHRISTMAS EVIL. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT. When it comes to holiday-themed horror flicks, Christmas has pretty much dominated. Well, move over Saint Nick, because SICK GIRL’s Eben McGarr is aiming to direct HANUKKAH, the first Festival of Lights fright film.

[REC] 2 premieres On Demand, Xbox Live, PlayStation, Amazon and VUDU June 4 and in theaters July 9. Directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, the sequel has a new clip for you to check out. And look for FANGO’s [REC] 2 review later in the day.
